It’s Christmas, a time of fun and laughter but whilst enjoying the good cheer lets not forget all that hard work we put in at the gym. So whilst enjoying yourself, eating some of those nice little treats, be mindful …….everything in moderation and remember to exercise when you can.
To assist all of our valued clients and friends here are some little tips that might help you survive the Christmas period:
- Don’t skip your workouts or training sessions. If you skip too many sessions the kilos will quickly pile on in a hurry. Don’t let all your hard work over the past year go to waste during this holiday period. Sticking to your training regime as much as possible can cover most eating mishaps!
- Take advantage of every opportunity to walk instead of drive. Just an extra 30 minutes of walking per day will make a big difference and help eliminate some of those extra Christmas kilojoules.
- On the days you are partying make sure you do some kind of cardio activity. This could be swimming, running, riding or skipping etc.
- Exergaming works fine: Wii Fit games are fun and you can go for hours without realising how much time you’ve spent exercising. Why not challenge the kids to a game of Wii Fit Tennis
- Stick to your normal nutrition plan as much as possible during the Christmas and New Year break. Don’t forget to treat yourself a little though. I know nanna’s Christmas pudding is to die for….but just have 1 small serve and definitely don’t have seconds.
- Sit away from the platters of food so you are not tempted to keep getting up for more.
- If you know you are going to have a big Christmas dinner don’t have a big breakfast or lunch. Make them slightly smaller than usual and fill yourself up on salad and vegetables so you can enjoy the treats at dinner time.
- Alcohol has calories too. Be the designated driver and limit your intake. If you want those roast potatoes don’t have that extra glass of wine as well!
- Don’t spend all your time eating. Go shopping, walk the dog, wash the car, play cricket with the kids…try to be active each and every day for at least 30 minutes.
- Drink lots of water. Stay hydrated and drink a big glass of water before every meal. This will fill you up a little and you will be less likely to overindulge.
- Keep a Food Diary….it will keep you accountable for everything that passes your lips!!!!!
- Last but not least…..It’s Christmas so don’t forget to enjoy yourself and allow some treats.
Just be mindful of “everything in moderation” and remember to exercise if all else fails.
